Natural habitat
This common gecko is found in the semi-arid rocky steppes
and woodlands of the Mediterranean. Adults require a
15 gallon size enclosure when kept in captivity.
Behavior
Males can become territorial, separate from other males.
Hyperactive and hard to hold. Will hibernate for 6-8
weeks.
Captive environment
Use full spectrum lighting 12-14 hours per day.
Animal should not have access to a basking area.
Provide rocky basking areas, likes crevices and caves.
Temperature
Maintain day temperature range between 78-85 degrees F.
Maintain night temperature range between 70-75 degrees F.
Use reptile heating pads under tank for 24-hour heat.
Humidity
This species requires low to moderate levels of humidity.
Water requirements
Provide a large shallow bowl for drinking and soaking.
Mist once per week.
Nutritional requirements
This species is a carnivore (meat eater).
Always offer variety for proper nutrition.
Eats small insects, flies, mosquitos, and insect larvae.
Dust food with calcium and vitamins.
Eats variety of larger worms (earthworms, meal/wax worms).
